Kelvin Divers

Kelvin Divers is a branch of the Scottish Sub Aqua Club (Scotsac) which operates from the Western Baths. The club welcomes anyone (18+) who wants to scuba dive whether or not you are already a qualified diver or have never dived before. Even if you trained under an organisation other than Scotsac (eg. Padi or BSAC), you can still join us and we will give you the equivalent Scotsac diver grade and provide any necessary cross-over training.

The club is run by the members and all training is carried out by members who are qualified divers and instructors. We meet at the Western Baths every Wednesday night between 8.30 and 10pm to do pool training and then we usually pop down to the bar for a quick drink to plan future dives and social activities.

We usually dive on Sundays and visit Loch Long, Loch Fyne, the Clyde the Sound of Mull and St. Abbs (East Coast). In the past, we have organised dive weekends to Skye, Loch Sunart, the Garvellachs and even a week in Majorca.

The club has a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) which we regularly use although we also do some short diving.

Training
If you are new to diving, you will of course need to do some training before you could dive in the open water. The training programme involves pool training, lectures, personal reading and, once the pool training has been completed, open water training. The length of time that it takes to obtain the qualification will depend on how regularly you attend the club and how quickly you get through the pool assessments. See full details of the training schedule.

The club has its own equipment (tanks, BCD’s, regulators and some dry suits) for trainees to use in the pool. This means that you don’t have to buy all the gear before you know if you are going to like the sport. We would recommend for your own comfort that you buy your own snorkel and mask quite early on in your training.

If you’ve ever thought about learning to dive, or are already a trained diver and are interested in diving with us, please call us or speak to us at the poolside or in the bar on Wednesday nights. We would be delighted to have new members join the club. You can either contact John Logie (Branch officer) on 07515 050 277 or Catriona McGowan (branch secretary) on 07986 582 299
