Mary Jean Lewis is part of a musical legacy that started back in the fifties with her uncle, Jerry Lee Lewis. She’s a dynamic personality and performer exuding all the charm you would expect from a Louisiana woman. She draws on a range of country, blues, and rock n roll to create her own soulful style based on her powerful voice and intimate connection with the lyrics.
Mary Jean Lewis has made quite a name for themselves on the Roots music scene playing a mixture of rockabilly and rock n roll but this night in March promises to be an intimate occasion as she takes us on a journey through American roots music accompanied by Martin Barrett (guitar). ‘When you are performing in this kind of venue, the atmosphere is amazing. You feel a special connection with the audience and with the song. It reminds of those times back in Sandy Bayou where everyone would get together and take turns singing songs on the front porch. Those times are such a part of who I am and why I love this music the way I do. It wasn’t just our entertainment. It was our way of life.’ Mary Jean Lewis
