Adam Bergius
My father and my brother Walter were very proud of having a low number pair of pants in the baths, I think it was 3! This would indicate that grandfather had done a great service for the Baths or that they had inherited the number from Adam Teacher. I think I was number 127.

The travelling rings which went the whole length of the Baths were quite a German feature. I was greatly encouraged to go on them. The first time I did the whole length my fingers gave out on the last swing with the result I hit the marble edge of the Baths with my front teeth. Fortunatley I had another lot due to come in. The Bathsmaster at that time was called Campbell, I think.

All five of us in that generation were members of the Baths and also my cousins, Ian and Yvonne Bergius. She was quite a telented swimmer and we used to watch her at the Galas. I remember in the winter after swimming we were allowed to buy a 2d slab of Bovril chocolate. I have never seen that product anywhere else before or since. I suspect it was an early product of Bournville.

The Baths were a great meeting place and I am glad to hear that they still prosper.
